Below is a step-by-step guide to help you get everything done that we need before the Honors Assembly and graduation.

There are things that all seniors must do before graduation and there are mandatory events that all seniors need to attend. See below for details.

Required Tasks

These items need to be completed before you can pick up your Cap and Gown and participate in the Honors Assembly/Graduation Ceremonies.  Try to get these done before May 9th so you can move through the process quickly.

1. Complete Final Next Step Plan

We have these for almost every student. If you have not turned one in, please see Mrs. Bash in the Counseling Office.

2. Order your Final Transcript

If you are going to college next year, you must send a final transcript showing your graduation date to the school you will be attending.  You need to order this before graduation.  Go to http://lacueva.aps.edu/, click on Order My Transcript icon (half way down page on right) and follow the steps to order your final transcript.  You MUST select "Hold For Grades" in order to signify this is your Final Transcript order. Otherwise, we will send it now and you will have to place another order to be your final transcript. A list of who has completed this process will be posted outside of Mrs. Ade's office this week.

3. Complete the Senior Exit Survey

All seniors will be required to complete the Senior Exit Survey. This survey collects information on what students plan to do after high school (college, military, career). It also collects scholarship information.  This information is used for the Honors Assembly so it is important that it is completed and accurate.  Click here to complete the survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LCHS2018.

4. Pay Fines

Students fines will be loaded into the fees section on StudentVUE. You must have all fines paid before you will be allowed to pick up your Cap and Gown. Check the system often as fines will be added by different entities on campus from now until graduation.

Make Sure You Take Your ACT/SAT

Seniors, if you have not taken an ACT or SAT yet, now is the time to sign up!  There are a lot of schools and scholarships that have December 1st deadlines and they often require an ACT/SAT score.  It typically takes 3-5 weeks for colleges to receive your scores so we really want students to take the exam at least once by November.

The next ACT is on October 28th and the deadline to sign up is September 22nd

There are two upcoming SATs, October 7th and November 4th. The deadline for the October 7th test has passed, but you can still sign up as a late registrant and pay the late fee. The deadline to sign up for the November 4th SAT is October 5th

Students need to sign up to take these exams via the organizations websites, they do not sign up for these at the school.  For more information, please visit the ACT registration site at http://www.act.org/ or the SAT registration site at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat.

If you qualify for Free or Reduced Priced Lunch, there are fee waivers available.  Students who qualify can take each test two times for free, they just need to ask their Counselor for a fee waiver.

Finally, the LCHS PTA will be holding a Practice ACT on Saturday, September 16th.  This practice allows students to take the ACT in a timed setting.  Students will receive their scores back at the Practice ACT Teachback scheduled for September 21st at 6:30pm.  This opportunity allows students to experience how the test is laid out/how the questions are asked, determine what they need to work on and learn test taking strategies. The cost is $20 and the PTA will be signing students up on September 14th and 15th during lunch outside the Counseling Office.  Students can pay with cash or check made payable to LCHS PTA.

Welcome to your Senior Year!

Welcome to your Senior Year Class of 2018!  I will be communicating with you and your parents a lot this year to let you know about important dates, deadlines, special events and scholarships. To do this I need a quick and easy way to get information to all of you at once. I will utilize the School Messenger program that allows me to send emails out to those who have email addresses in our system but I also like to use remind.com. This service allows anyone to sign up to receive text message and/or email messages. I never see your phone number or email address but you will receive my messages and you can opt out at any time.  To get started follow the instructions below.

Counselors will be meeting with all Seniors on Monday, September 18th during senior English classes and I will hold a parent meeting that same night to share the information with parents. This meeting will be in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) starting at 6:30 p.m.

As always, if you have any questions please send me a quick email at debra.chandler@aps.edu and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Communication Through Remind.com

One of the primary ways we communicate with Seniors is through Remind.com. Parents and students can sign up to receive messages by following the instructions below.  We do not see your phone number or email address and the messages will be relevant to the senior year (college visits, application deadlines, presentation reminders, scholarship lists, etc.)

Simply text @lacueva18 to the number 81010

Don't have a mobile phone? Go to rmd.at/lacueva18 on a desktop computer to sign up for email notifications

Get Ready to Apply Presentation Information

Thank you to all the parents and students who attended my presentation on February 28, 2017.  As promised here is the PowerPoint and handouts that will be helpful to all of you throughout the rest of this semester, the summer and the beginning of the senior year.

One reminder, please make sure you/your student is signed up to take the ACT or SAT in March or April.  They can also take the exam(s) in June but if they wait until September or October we sometimes don't get scores back in time to meet some admissions and scholarship deadlines.  To sign up for the exams visit http://www.actstudent.org/ for the ACT or https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register for the SAT.
